General Membership Activities
October-November 1998

Public Speeches:
In late October, Lee McLamb and David Hobbs addressed the local chapter of Citizens for Florida Waterways (CFW) regarding Revision 11.  The state leaders of Citizens for Constitutional Property Rights (CCPR)--who closely associate with CFW state leaders--had issued a press release some weeks earlier recommending against passing Revision 11.  Lee and David offered persuasive arguments favoring Revision 11 that were very well-received by the CFW.  Later, the CCPR issued a last-minute press release reversing their original recommendation and recommending a YES vote on Revision 11. We suspect the CFW leaders influenced CCPR leaders to reverse their position. Either way, the CFW's warm response to our message offers a lesson for Libertarians: We are making a difference!

Radio Appearances:
"The Naked Truth" is a regular radio broadcast that discusses naturism and other Libertarian-related issues.  Lee McLamb, our Chair, made a guest call into the show on November 8 and began explaining the Libertarian Party's stand against the War on Drugs.  The station manager, Connie Fishbaugh, abruptly broke into the dialogue and furiously remonstrated the participants, pontificating that she would not tolerate any objections to the War on Drugs whatsoever.  She ended the show 15 minutes early and played filler music in its place.  Later, she asserted that she had heard all of the arguments against the War on Drugs, and that she felt like anyone who opposed it was "no better than a child molester" and should be taken "out back for a beating".

Monthly Socials:
The monthly social followed a slightly different format for October.  Rather than hold it as a pot-luck dinner at someone's home, we had our general meeting at Choo Choo's B-B-Q and Lounge in Cocoa.  We had a good turnout of people, and Lee McLamb did a fine job of addressing the month's most important issue: the upcoming November 3 elections.  Our most important candidate was not a person, but a proposed revision to the Florida Constitution: Revision 11 for Fair Elections.  (As we all now know, it passed!)  Lee also reviewed briefly the Operation Politically Homeless (OPH) booth concept.

Libertarian Party of Brevard T-Shirts:
Vice Chair David Hobbs is placing an order for some T-shirts featuring our "Rocket Liberty" symbol and party name.  Call him at 452-6902 for details and ordering information.  The more advance orders we get, the cheaper they will be!

The annual CFF will be held again at Wickham Park next to Brevard Community College in Melbourne.  Come and learn about the history of hemp, a highly useful plant with a long history of positive benefits to people around the world.  Enjoy some fine music and good food as well.  The Libertarian Party of Brevard (LPB) will be holding an Operation Politically Homeless (OPH) booth there again this year.   Based on last year's results, the LPB fully expects a large percentage of those tested to score in the "Libertarian" quadrant of the "World's Smallest Political Quiz".

Monthly Social
Note: Our monthly socials are usually held the last Saturday of each month, but because of the holidays, we are skipping past any attempt at a November meeting and are holding an early meeting in December. This month, we will conduct our meeting at the home of Lee McLamb, 3593 Tarragon Drive, Canaveral Groves. Bring a covered dish and your choice of beverage. Come and enjoy the company of local Libertarians who largely share your political views.  As we have done in previous socials, we will have a tough topics session in which we spend 15 minutes per topic (two topics maximum) offering Libertarian solutions to commonly suggested problems.
