Right to Keep and Bear Arms
Home Up

Our forefathers established the United States of America and had to fight an armed revolution against an intolerable government that was oppressing them.  The government that was established included a system of checks and balances.  One of the checks used to balance the power between the people and the government is the right of the people to bear arms.

To be a legitimate check as intended by our forefathers the arms the people have the right to bear must be sufficient to overthrow the government with an armed revolution of the people.  Only when the people are capable of carrying out an armed revolution against the government should it become intolerable or oppressive, will the government have a check and balance to discourage it from becoming intolerable or oppressive.  The patriots that founded this country knew that a government that tried to restrict the right of the people to bear arms was one that was trying to become oppressive of it's people. The government should be the responsible servant of the people and not the oppressors of the people.

People today should not forget what our forefathers knew:

For freedom, the government must have respect for the rights of the people.
For freedom, the government must fear being declared a criminal against the people.  Governmental fear of being declared a criminal against the people is only real when the people have the ability to defend themselves from the crimes of an oppressive government.
The only government that would restrict the rights of the people to bear arms is a government that is wanting to become more oppressive and exploit the people rather than serve them.

The intention of our forefathers in establishing our right to bear arms was so the people could overthrow the government.  After all they themselves had just done that in order to earn our freedom from the oppressive and misrepresenting government of England.

There was high taxation, special interest representation, misappropriation of funds, corruption, and a bad justice system.  Our right to bear arms is the people's check to see that these things do not happen again.  If you think we have high taxation, special interest representation, misappropriation of funds, corruption, and a bad justice system today, it is because the government does not have sufficient respect for the representation of the people..  If you think the government is representing itself and not truly representing the people, it is a sign that the people need to get more and bigger armaments.  Only when the government is afraid of an armed revolution by the people will the government represent the people..  People with more arms mean more freedom and a more responsible government..  If the people possess sufficient arms there should not be a need for an armed revolution against the government.
